Adobe announced a set of agentic AI partnerships recently covering both agency networks and technology companies. The partnerships include some of the world’s largest marketing services organizations alongside technology partnerships with Anthropic and Microsoft.
Adobe’s stated goal: accelerate agentic AI adoption in enterprise marketing workflows. The framing of the announcement focused on what the AI tools can do. A more important question is what this partnership structure signals about where the competitive battle in marketing technology is actually being fought.
Adobe is not selling AI features. It is selling workflow lock-in.
The distinction matters. Features can be replicated by competitors, copied by new entrants, or absorbed by general-purpose AI systems. A deeply embedded agentic workflow that spans creative production, campaign activation, measurement, and reporting is much harder to displace. The agency and technology partner network Adobe is assembling is designed to make its AI layer the connective tissue across those workflows rather than a point solution that sits alongside them.
For marketing and technology executives, this is the right lens for evaluating any AI platform investment in this space. The question is not which system has the best generation capability today. The question is which system will be most embedded in your workflow two years from now, when switching costs are real and the organizational change required to move has compounded.
I have spent my career helping companies evaluate platform decisions where the short-term feature comparison pointed in one direction and the long-term switching cost analysis pointed in another. The organizations that got this right were the ones that evaluated platform stickiness alongside capability.
Adobe’s agency AI announcement is a platform stickiness play. The partnerships with the largest marketing services networks give them distribution and adoption depth that point-solution AI vendors cannot match.
Enterprise marketing technology decisions made in the next 18 months will operate inside that reality.
