Warner Bros. Discovery announced this week that it is overhauling its ad-tech infrastructure around agentic AI advertising, built on Amazon Web Services. The goal is a unified platform that brings linear TV and digital advertising together under one automated buying experience.
The capability set is specific: media planning, dynamic forecasting, real-time campaign optimization, and closed-loop measurement. AI agents will handle the continuous self-optimization across those functions. WBD says human decision-making remains in charge of the important calls. The agents are executing, not directing.
What Agentic AI Advertising Means for Buyers
The linear and digital divide has been a persistent structural problem for advertisers for more than a decade. Different workflows, different data systems, different buying mechanics. WBD is betting that agentic AI is the infrastructure layer that finally collapses that divide. Whether the technology is fully there yet is an open question, but the strategic framing is correct. A buyer being able to move spend across linear and streaming with the same ease and data visibility is the right destination.
The competitive pressure is real. Another major broadcaster launched what it called the first end-to-end agentic advertising platform the same week. Cannes Lions is next week. The entire ad industry is converging on agentic AI as the next major infrastructure claim. These announcements are partly strategic positioning and partly operational commitment. Separating the two will take 12 to 18 months of real campaign results.
What WBD is describing is not a feature upgrade. It is a workflow redesign. Media planning was a human-intensive process built on experience, relationships, and spreadsheets. An agent-driven system with real-time optimization and closed-loop measurement is a different operating model. The question is not whether this is where the industry is heading. It is which publishers and platforms get there first.
New planning tools roll out in Q3. Composable order management follows. Advertisers willing to run on these systems early will have data and learning advantages over those who wait.
